Parents' Association

Dominican College Parents’ Association 2024/2025

The Dominican College Parents’ Association plays a vital role in supporting school life and fostering positive connections between parents, staff, and students. Throughout the 2024/2025 academic year, the PA met on the following dates:

  • 24th September 2024

  • 19th November 2024 (AGM)

  • 26th February 2025

In addition, parents contributed to a number of focus groups in early 2025, including:

  • Bí Cineálta Focus Group – 20th March 2025

  • SPHE Parent Focus Group – 20th March 2025

  • LGBTQ+ Parent Focus Group – 25th February 2025

Meetings & Key Topics

Parents’ Association meetings are held in the school from 18:00–19:00.
Discussions this year have included:

  • Principal’s updates on school activities

  • School building improvements (e.g. bathroom refurbishments, future development plans)

  • New school tracksuit and sustainable jumper alternatives

  • Free Book Scheme rollout

  • New fire alarm installation

  • Membership of the National Parents Council (NPC)

  • Guest speakers for PA events

  • Organising social events for parents

  • Second-hand uniform sales

Events Supported by the Parents’ Association 2024/2025:

  • Second-hand uniform sales (18th Sept 2024 & 26th June 2025)

  • 1st Year Bake Sale

  • TY Musical

  • 1st Year Induction Evening

  • Focus groups: Bí Cineálta & SPHE

  • LGBTQ+ inclusive school research focus group

  • TY Graduation & 6th Year Graduation

Highlights of the Year:

  • Continued support of school events and focus groups

  • Re-establishment and success of the 2nd Hand Uniform Sale

  • Formal membership with the National Parents Council

Looking Ahead to 2025/2026:

  • Ongoing recruitment of parent representatives from each year group

  • Guest speaker John Sharry to speak on “Supporting Your Teenager’s Self-Esteem & Mental Health” on 10th September 2025

  • Further parent talks and workshops throughout the year

  • Continued support for school events such as graduations and TY Musical

  • Promotion of school lottery participation

  • Regular updates to the Parents' Association section of the school website
