Transition Year Updates

12-December-25

Ice Skating

On the 8th of December, all TYs went on a day trip to Swords ice skating rink. Our day started with our first two classes before we set off on the 41 bus at 10.00. We arrived around 11:15 and got on our skates. We had an hour on the ice, so we took advantage of our time on the ice and skated around, some people more advanced than others! The hour on the ice was filled with many falls and laughter, with our teachers taking a few funny snaps! Overall, it was a great day out.

Barista Training

The TY Barista course took place for all Transition Years on Wednesday, the 26th and Thursday, the 27th of November. We were taught by trained professionals and learned how to make lattes and mochas using a coffee machine. This experience was extremely valuable and practical for all students. It was an enjoyable activity!

First Aid

Over the past few weeks, each Transition Year class has had the opportunity to do a First Aid course. In the course, we learned many different first aid skills. Throughout the day, we learned how to check if someone is unconscious, how to perform CPR, how to identify different types of burns, and more! We learned this through presentations and demonstrations, but we also got the chance to try it ourselves. We did CPR on dummies and got to practice wrapping bandages on our friends. Overall, this was a very practical and enjoyable experience.

Community Placement

Every year, the TY’s attend community placement from the 10th to the 14th of November. The goal of the placement is to give back to the community. Many students volunteered at charity shops, youth centres and schools. The feedback from these establishments was amazing, and we would love to congratulate the girls on all their hard work. We hope it goes just as well in their work experience in the following months.
