Many thanks to classes 1.1, 1.4 & 4.4 and their teachers who organised a cupcake competition in aid of Kildare Animal Welfare which raised over €500.
On Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th April, a group of 27 students competed in the North Leinster Athletics competition. Several students from 1st Year all the way up to 6th Year took part in various events such as Sprints, Long Distance Running, Long Jump, Shot and Discus to name a few.
Several girls had great success at the championships. Kate Hession (4th Year) reached the final of the Intermediate 300m Sprint. The Intermediate relay team, comprising of Ciara Purdy, Emma Garrett, Aoife Burke and Kate Hession (all 4th Year) reached the final of the 4 x 100m.
There must also be a special mention for two of our students! Alannah Cooley (2nd Year) has qualified for the Leinster Champinships in the Junior 200m Sprint. Alannah won her heat and went on to secure a silver medal in the final!
Also Fiona Tuite (4th Year) has qualified for the Leinster Championships in both Shot AND Discus! Fiona secured a gold medal in Shot (her throw was 1.5m longer than the next best competitor!!) and also a silver medal in Discus. Alannah and Fiona will be competing in the Leinster Championships on the 15th and 18th of May. BEST OF LUCK GIRLS!!!
Well done to all who participated in this event!
Our first year camogie team went to DCU for skills coaching and a blitz.
In the morning session, several DCU student coaches did drills and games with us. Each coach focused on different skills. We practised roll lifting, jab lifting, striking in the air and hand passing the sliotar. After that intense training the coaches gave us a free lunch.
The afternoon session consisted of a blitz competition. The time was limited and we did not get to play all teams. We played three matches versus Scoil Caitríona A and B teams and Maryfield College. We defeated all three teams and everyone played really well.
It was a great day. We all had lots of fun and we got to play camogie all day which was probably the best part of it.
