3rd Year Geography Fieldtrip

On Tuesday October 11th all 3rd year students took a trip to Howth for a mini coastal fieldwork. Our trip began at Howth summit and finished on Balscadden Beach. Students started the day by recalling what they remembered about coastal processes before going on the summit walk. On the way they identified features of coastal erosion and deposition. On reaching Balscadden Beach students completed the fieldwork booklet by carrying out a number of fieldwork activities. These included a wave count as well as completing a sketch of all coastal features identified.  There was also great excitement when a curious seal made an appearance! A great day was had by all.

Workplace Relations Commission Invitation Suspends Industrial Action

The Association of Secondary School Teachers in Ireland has suspended industrial action following two days of strikes.

Both the ASTI and the Department of Education have confirmed that they have received invitations from the Workplace Relations Commission to discuss the dispute.

As a result, all schools are to open as normal tomorrow.

School Open on Wednesday 9th November

The Board of Management continues to have contingency plans in place to allow Dominican College to remain open.

Update on Industrial Action

For the attention of all Parents/Guardians.

Following on from a Board of Management meeting of Tuesday 25th October, it has been decided that Dominican College will be unable to open for students tomorrow, Thursday 27th October 2016 due to ASTI strike action. This will also be the arrangement for the additional 6 days of strike (outlined in Circular 0070/2016) should the ASTI Industrial Dispute not be resolved.

With regard to our ability to keep the school open from November 7th 2016 (after mid- term break) when ASTI members intend to withdraw from the Supervision and Substitution Scheme, in the context of our school, the Board considers at this present time that we will be able remain open with an appropriate contingency plan in place. However, this contingency arrangement will be monitored on a daily basis and should our context change all parents will be notified of any new arrangements immediately.
