Congratulations to the Senior Girls' Gaelic Football team who won the North Dublin Development Shield.
We were drawn in group two against 2 strong Dublin teams Santa Sabina and Scoil Caitriona. The Santa Sabina game was difficult and came down to the last few minutes. We came out as victors of both of these games. These wins gave us passage through to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, we came up against Dominican College, Newbridge. This was another close contest which could have gone either way, but in the last quarter we clinched the win.
The highly coveted final was against the host’s Taylor’s Hill. There were a large number of home supporters, but luckily our soccer team arrived to cheer us on (after a tremendous performance themselves, in the soccer tournament). This helped our performance greatly.
The game was extremely close throughout. We were 5 points down in the dying minutes but with a free throw from Eve O’ Brien and a 3 pointer from Laura McGrath we were back to within 1 point. After a great offensive rebound and basket from Carol-Anne Canning we were 1 point up and the clock sounded. We were delighted to retain the cup!
It was a great performance by all members of the team. The tournament was great fun and very competitive. We hope to defend our title in next year’s tournament!
Best of Luck Neasa from all in Dominican College!
The Final itself was extremely close from start to finish. There were some excellent plays by both sides. Dominican College however, with a huge team effort pulled away in the last quarter to beat Manor House, Raheny by 4 points.
Congratulations to all the girls involved for their hard work and the great accomplishment they achieved in winning the SSA Dublin Senior Premier Basketball Final.
