Fáilte & Welcome
Céad Míle Fáilte to all our readers, whether parent, student, teacher, past student or someone interested to find out about our fine College.
Alex, our SNA, saw a lovely image of a book Christmas tree online. She showed it to Mrs Kealy and together they thought it was a great Christmas idea for the Library this year. (for a change )
It took Alex about 2 hours to build it, with the help of Eve Cullen (4.4) and Aideen Lennon, our other SNA. Mrs Kealy helped with the Christmas decorations.
We are delighted to show off a change of Christmas tree in the Library with a novel book theme.
Ho ho ho!!
Last Thursday the Parents’ Association held their first fundraiser of the year- A Cookery Demonstration by Catherine Fulvio, along with a Christmas market and raffle. The night was a great success with a huge turnout. Local entrepreneurs were able to showcase their amazing quality products to Dominican students and their family and friends. The stalls included Zest Nutrition, the Birds & the Teas, Brady’s butchers and many more. Even the TYs had many orders placed for their hand made horticulture crafts. The complimentary mulled wine and mince pie brought a warm Christmassy spirit to the evening. Ho Ho Ho!
Catherine Fulvio was a joy to watch as her passion for food was an inspiration for all who attended. We would like to congratulate all those who were involved in the events of that evening and hopefully it will be the first of many to come. We wish them all the best in their fundraising for new school windows. Megan Blake (6th Year)
We would like to thank all those who have supported the musical to date. We have put on a matinee performance for local schools and have had two late performances on Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately, all tickets for the remaining two nights have been sold. So unless you have tickets bought already there's no point in queuing at the doors tonight or tomorrow (Wednesday or Thursday).
Thank you for your understanding.
The PE Department have been involved in the ‘Get Going Get Rowing’ Schools Programme in association with Rowing Ireland for the last 5 years. It has been a highly successful programme involving coaches from Rowing Ireland coming into the school to lead the programme. In return the girls have learned a new sport and have got to participate in Rowing blitz’s run by Rowing Ireland and also the girls have been given the opportunity to row on the water at various Rowing clubs.
The whole of 1st Year went to a rowing Blitz last Friday in Trinity College and all had a great day. At the Blitz the school was presented with an award for the most committed school over the last few years. We were presented with a signed jersey of our successful Olympic and World Championship rowers both men’s and ladies - such a great honour for the school. Miss. Quinn and Miss Walls - PE Department
Trinity College in conjunction with the Royal Chemistry Society carried out a workshop in Spectroscopy for Dominican College Senior Physics and Chemistry Classes as part of Dominican College's Science Week today.
‘Spectroscopy in a Suitcase’ allowed the students to learn about spectroscopy through hands-on experience. As well as covering the principles of spectroscopic techniques, the activities use real-life contexts to demonstrate the applications of the techniques as well as the added bonus of using the instruments themselves.
