Foireann Sinsearach Díospóireachta

Comhghairdeachas don Fhoireann Sinsearach Díospóireachta! Maith sibh Saoirse Ní Bhaoil, Laura-Ann Ní Cheallaigh agus Siobhán Ní Dhonnacha. Rinne na cailíní sár-obair aréir (23ú Eanair 2008) nuair a fuair siad tríd chuig an Craobh Reigiúnach i gComórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh eagraithe ag Gael Linn. An rún a bhí i gceist ná ‘Is seafóid é an teilifís.’ Bhí muidne i gcoinne an rúin. Ghlac Pobalscoil Neasáin, Coláiste Belvedere agus Scoil Chnoc an Teampaill páirt freisin. Táimíd ag tnúth go mór leis an gcéad babhta eile ar an 28ú Feabhra. Coinnigí súil amach le nuacht uainn. Go n-éirí go geal libh a chailíní!

StricTlY Ballroom – Reflections from the Producers

Dominican College’s Transition Year (2007) show StricTlY Ballroom performed in The Helix in DCU was a huge success as an audience of over 1,000 clapped and cheered their way through an evening of entertainment which focused on Ballroom Dancing. The show on December 10 was one of the biggest gatherings in the 125 years of distinguished history enjoyed by Dominican College, as students, teachers, management, trustees, past students, parents and friends of our school gathered together to perform and enjoy a very special night of entertainment and education.

StricTlY Ballroom provided an opportunity for our TY students to not only learn about dance, but to develop in a wide variety of ways which we hope will benefit them as they mature and develop in the future. All students, both on stage and back stage, learned important lessons for their future lives like teamwork, commitment, organisation, dedication, volunteering, innovation and creativity.

Since it opened in 1883, Dominican College has maintained a proud record of producing shows. Nowadays the annual show forms a major part of the school’s very successful Transition Year Programme. This year the school’s brave ambition in producing a show on the scale of StricTlY Ballroom was justified by the tremendous level of support received. To parents, thank you again for trusting us to involve your children in a Transition Year programme which we believe ranks with the best available. Nights like Demember 10th in The Helix highlight the quality of our TY programme for us all.

Wherever we turned for help we found great goodwill towards the idea of the show. Our MC, RTÉ news journalist Niamh Sweeney, was the consummate professional. Our Style and Fashion Judge, Caroline Morahan brought star quality to the evening. Our dance judges Kathy McGuinness, April Coady, Tara Treacy, Michael O’Connor and Peter O’Driscoll performed one of the most difficult tasks on the night.

StricTlY Ballroom has been a real learning experience for students, teachers and all others involved. Tremendous credit must be given to all who have helped make this show possible. To all who supported StricTlY Ballroom, thanks for your encouragement and assistance. StricTlY Ballroom was also the first show to be hosted outside of the school. The show’s success also stemmed from great teamwork and co-operation between the staff and students of partner schools St. Aidan’s CBS, Belvedere College and Dominican College.

Finally to the students, thanks for making StricTlY Ballroom happen, best of luck in the future.
